BEAUTIFUL DAY
“It’s a beautiful day,”
I begin to say
as I walk out through my door.
I picture an even summer breeze
while the wind around me whips.
I look to the sky,
seeking out the sun
even when the thickest clouds
try to dim its light
and trap me in the dark.
“God painted a landscape,”
I speak as I smile,
seeing a rainbow of leaves
in place of wilting branches
and the seasonal decay.
The air reaches a chill
that aches me to the bone.
My body convulses and shakes
as my teeth chatter away.
I repeat myself and say…
“Today is a beautiful day.”
