ABOUT ME

HI THERE! MY NAME IS JESSICA MCKEOWN.

I am a professional writer with a concentration in (music) journalism, public relations/publicity, and poetry. My interest in writing developed at the age of ten writing stories with my grandfather (a retired reporter and editor for The Daily News in Brooklyn). My first explorations into published writing were in high school for the school literary magazine, school newspaper, and Student Council in high school, and I later continued my writing studies at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.

My music journalism career spans 10 years starting with earplugsrequired.com in 2013 (editor and writer) and and then I joined amplifiededge.com as a writer and editor in 2017 up until its closure in 2022 after my friend and editor-in-chief for earplugsrequired.com passed away in 2015. I walked into my current positions as editor, writer, and photographer for EMSU Media in January 2022. (I currently oversee a team of 5+ writers for the page.) Since taking on those roles, site traffic and unique visitor statistics increased 33% as of January 2023. I also write and photograph for New Fury Media.

Outside of journalism, I currently hold a position as PR Agent for DI Records (Pittsburgh, PA) doing the label’s publicity for our bands. I am also working on a poetry chapbook and publishing poetry in literary magazines.
